Printed in its first year of publication, 1933, this antique USGS 7.5-minute topographic sheet was surveyed in 1930 under geographer E.P. Davis and grades in fair condition, lightly handled and never folded on thick stock, though it carries considerable colored pencil lines within the map area and township notations in the collar. The quad takes in Kettleman Plain in Kings County, in the vicinity of Avenal about 58 miles south of Fresno. Drawn before the modern road system and the current agricultural footprint took shape, it records the historic levees, canals, placenames, and the ranches, schools, rail lines, and structures known at the time, and the reverse carries printed reference material about the mapping program.
