This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is a 1903 edition printed in 1911, an antique in very good condition that was never folded and remains smooth and flat on thick stock. It takes in a stretch of central New York about 25 miles southeast of Utica, with Richfield Springs and Cherry Valley falling within its bounds across parts of Herkimer, Montgomery, and Otsego counties. Surveyed in 1899 and 1900 before the modern highway system, it records the overland travel routes, early placenames, and structures known at the time, and the reverse carries printed reference material on reading the map. Engraved in 1902 under geographer H.M. Wilson, this sheet comes from an uncommonly well-preserved collection, with a flawless map area and only minor collar blemishes and hole punches along the left edge.

All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.

Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
