Printed in its year of first publication, 1943, this Army Corps of Engineers topographic sheet is in excellent condition—very lightly handled, never folded, and printed on thick stock. The quad sits at the mouth of the Columbia River in Pacific County, Washington, taking in Ilwaco, Chinook, and Megler, with part of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge within its boundaries. Built from a 1938 aerial and field survey, it records the lower Columbia’s shoreline and river approaches as they stood during the Second World War, when the coastal defenses at Fort Columbia guarded the estuary. Small library stamps sit in the collar, and having never been folded, the sheet lies flat for framing.
