This Army Corps of Engineers topographic sheet, a first-year 1941 print of the 15-minute Gate quad, survives in very good condition on thick stock, lightly handled and never folded with a flawless map area. Drawn from a 1911 through 1938 aerial and field survey, it takes in country roughly 65 miles southwest of Seattle at the meeting of Grays Harbor, Lewis, and Thurston counties, with the community of Gate that names the quad along with Oakville, Rochester, Littlerock, and part of the Chehalis Indian Reservation within its boundaries. The small inventory stamps on the lower collar mark it as an old working sheet from an era when the Corps mapped this stretch of the lower Chehalis River valley.
