Woodhull Illinois Wataga Windsor USGS Topo Map 1947 Vintage
$22
Printed in its year of first publication, 1947, this vintage 15-minute USGS topographic sheet is in good condition, lightly handled with a single midsheet horizontal foldline and printed on thick stock. Drawn from a 1945 aerial and field survey, it takes in a stretch of northwestern Illinois farm country about 50 miles northwest of Peoria, with the quad area including Woodhull, Wataga, Alpha, and the smaller communities of Rio and North Henderson across parts of Henry, Knox, Mercer, and Warren counties. Anyone with roots in this corner of the state will recognize the grid of section-line roads and small towns laid out at 1:62,500, and the reverse carries printed reference material on reading the map.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Woodhull 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1945. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
