Printed in its year of first publication, 1918, this USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is in very good condition, lightly handled and never folded on thick stock. Covering roughly 13 by 17 miles of western Illinois across parts of Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, and Warren counties, its boundaries take in the town of La Harpe along with Stronghurst, Blandinsville, and the smaller communities of Raritan and Sciota. The sheet carries the mark of its era, engraved in 1917 and drawn from a 1916 field survey under geographer W.H. Herron, showing the farm country and rural road network of the region as it stood a century ago.
