Pilot Knob Colorado Routt NF USGS Topo Map 1963 Vintage
$42
This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1923 edition printed in 1963, an excellent sheet that was never folded and remains smooth and flat on thick stock. It covers a stretch of Routt County in northwestern Colorado about 20 miles northwest of Steamboat Springs, taking in Pilot Knob and portions of Routt National Forest across mountainous terrain. Drawn from a 1923 field survey with contours at 50-foot intervals, it depicts high, largely undeveloped country that anyone familiar with the ranges north of Steamboat would recognize. The map area shows no wear or markings aside from one very small blemish west of Pilot Knob, with only an inventory stamp on the bottom right collar.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Pilot Knob 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1923. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
