This USGS 15-minute topographic map of Crown Butte is a 1955 edition printed in 1979, and the never-folded sheet is in excellent condition with no markings or blemishes on the map area. The quad straddles the Montana-Wyoming line and takes in part of the Gallatin Range, portions of Yellowstone National Park and Gallatin National Forest, and the community of Big Sky, with the Lee Metcalf Wilderness and the Hyalite-Porcupine-Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area within its boundaries. At a 40-foot contour interval, it maps the rugged high country south of Bozeman as it was recorded through the aerial and field survey of 1947 through 1955, before Big Sky grew into the resort area many now know. Its clean, unfolded condition makes it a good candidate for framing.
