This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1955 edition, printed in 1972, and the sheet is in excellent condition—very lightly handled and never folded, with a flawless map area and a clean collar. Covering roughly 12 by 17 miles of the mountains about 25 miles south of Bozeman, the quad takes its name from Fridley Peak and includes parts of the Gallatin National Forest and the Hyalite-Porcupine-Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area, spanning the line between Gallatin and Park counties. With 80-foot contours tracing steep, high country and no towns within its boundaries, it shows the kind of rugged backcountry the Gallatin Range is known for. Because it was never folded, this sheet lies flat and is well suited to framing.
