This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1950 edition printed in 1968, in very good condition on thick stock, lightly handled and never folded. Covering roughly 12 by 17 miles in southwestern Montana about 40 miles southwest of Bozeman, the quad takes in Sphinx Mountain along with portions of Gallatin National Forest and the Taylor-Hilgard Unit of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, straddling Gallatin and Madison counties near Big Sky. Its 1947 and 1950 aerial and field survey predates the Pioneer Mountain ski development, Paradigm Pines, and the Yellowstone Club, showing this stretch of country before Big Sky became a resort destination. The map area is flawless, with no markings or blemishes in the collar.
