This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1952 edition printed in 1966, and the sheet is in flawless condition — never folded, smooth and flat, on thick stock. Covering roughly 14 by 17 miles southeast of Phoenix, the quad area takes in Chandler and Sun Lakes in Maricopa County along with Sacaton and Santan in Pinal County, and includes parts of the Gila River and Maricopa Indian Reservations and the Hohokam Pima National Monument. It records the Chandler area as surveyed before the suburban growth toward Hunt Highway, showing the Gila River valley when much of the land south of the city was still open. Its flat, unfolded condition makes it a good candidate for framing.
