Gila Bend Arizona Bosque USGS 15-Min Topo Map 1955 Vintage
$47
This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1951 edition printed in 1955, an excellent sheet that was never folded and remains smooth and flat on thick stock. Drawn from 1948 and 1950 aerial and field surveys, it takes in the desert country around Gila Bend in Maricopa County, roughly 50 miles southwest of Phoenix, with the quad boundaries including the community of Bosque and part of the Gila Bend Indian Reservation. The map also covers ground within the South Maricopa Mountains Wilderness, the feature the quad is titled for, and its clean map area and never-folded condition make it well suited to framing. Note the hole punches in the left collar.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Gila Bend 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1948 and 1950. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
