This is a first-year 1905 print from the USGS 15-minute series, engraved in 1905 from an 1904 field survey by geographer H.M. Wilson, and it survives in very good condition—never folded, smooth and flat on thick stock, with a flawless map area and only very minor collar blemishes and hole punches along the left edge. Set along the Saint Lawrence River in St. Lawrence County, the quad takes in Waddington and the surrounding country east toward Louisville and south to Madrid, with features on the Canadian side of the river visible as well. Surveyed before the modern highway system, the sheet records the historic travel routes, rail lines, and placenames of the area as they stood in 1905, and it comes from an uncommonly well-preserved collection. The reverse carries printed reference material explaining the mapping program and how to read the map.
