Printed in its year of first publication, 1915, this USGS 15-minute topographic sheet was engraved that same year under geographer R.B. Marshall and comes from an uncommonly well-preserved collection in excellent condition—never folded, smooth and flat, on thick stock, with only hole punches along the left collar and very minor blemishes. The quad reaches from the Canadian border south toward Chazy Lake in New York’s Clinton and Franklin counties, taking in the area around Lyon Mountain, Ellenburg Depot, and Churubusco about 25 miles northwest of Plattsburgh. Surveyed in 1912, before the modern highway system, it records the historic travel routes, rail lines, and individual houses known at the time, and having never been folded it remains suitable for framing. The reverse carries printed USGS reference material from the 1915 program.

All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.

Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
