This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1953 edition printed in 1969, in good condition on thick stock, lightly handled with foldlines and some sheet rippling from minor humidity contact. Drawn at 1:62,500 from a 1948 and 1953 aerial and field survey, it takes in high Sierra country along the Fresno and Inyo county line, including parts of Kings Canyon National Park, Inyo National Forest, and the John Muir and Sequoia-Kings Canyon Wilderness areas about 10 miles northwest of Independence. With 80-foot contours climbing across the terrain around Mount Pinchot, the sheet shows the kind of remote high-elevation backcountry that draws people who have hiked or climbed this stretch of the Sierra crest.
