This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is a 1950 edition, printed in 1968, on thick stock and in excellent condition – never folded, smooth and flat, with a small inventory stamp on the bottom collar. Based on a 1947 and 1950 aerial and field survey, it takes in the Colorado River crossing at Needles along the Arizona-California line, with the quad area including Mohave Valley, Willow Valley, and Arizona Village, and portions of the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation and Havasu National Wildlife Refuge. The map records the river-town landscape around Needles at mid-century, when the crossing tied the two states together across the desert. It comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.
