This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1962 edition, printed in 1971, and the sheet is in excellent condition – very lightly handled, never folded, and smooth and flat on thick stock. Based on a 1951 through 1962 aerial and field survey, the quad takes in the town of Quartzsite in La Paz County, western Arizona, along with portions of the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge and the Kofa and New Water Mountains Wilderness areas. Quartzsite has long drawn rockhounds and desert travelers to this stretch of country between Yuma and the Colorado River, and the flat, unfolded sheet – from the collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona – would frame well.
