Hope Arizona Salome USGS 15-Min Topographic Map 1967 Vintage

$42

This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1961 edition printed in 1967, and the sheet is in flawless condition—never folded, smooth and flat, and on thick stock. Covering a stretch of western Arizona’s La Paz County, the quad area takes in the community of Hope and the town of Salome, along with part of the Kofa Wilderness and Kofa National Wildlife Refuge to the south. Based on a 1951 through 1961 aerial and field survey completed before Interstate 10 crossed this part of the desert, it shows the road network as it stood in that earlier era. From the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen, Tempe, Arizona.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Hope 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1951 through 1961. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
