1967 USGS Topo Map: Dry Mountain, Death Valley, California

$40

This is a 1957 edition of the Dry Mountain quad, printed in 1967 at 1:62,500 on thick stock with a green woodland tint marking vegetated ground. It maps a stretch of Inyo County about 35 miles east of Independence, taking in part of Death Valley National Park and the Death Valley Wilderness, with Racetrack Valley and part of the Panamint Range within the quad. Racetrack Valley is known for its sailing stones, rocks that trace long tracks across the dry playa. The sheet has never been folded and would frame well.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Dry Mountain 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1952 and 1957. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
