This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1952 edition printed in 1961, and the sheet is in excellent condition, very lightly handled and never folded. Drawn from a 1950 and 1952 aerial and field survey at 1:62,500, it takes in country about 25 miles southwest of Elko in Elko and Eureka counties, where the town of Carlin and the community of Palisade fall within the quad boundaries and the Humboldt River runs through the area. The river gives the sheet much of its shape, tracing the route that carried early travelers and the railroad through this stretch of northern Nevada.

A reddish tint may be used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings will be shown. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.
