This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a first-year 1951 print, published and printed the same year, and the sheet is in very good condition—never folded, lightly handled, with a flawless map area and only very light age-toning to the paper. It takes in country in the vicinity of Gila Bend in Maricopa County, roughly 60 miles southwest of Phoenix, with the Sauceda Mountains, the Gila River, and part of the Gila Bend Indian Reservation within the quad boundaries, along with the communities of Theba, Piedra, and Black Gap. Drawn from a 1947 and 1950 aerial and field survey, it shows this stretch of the lower Gila before Interstate 8 was built through the region. Printed on thick stock and never folded, the sheet lies flat, and it comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.
