First published in 1958, this Cochise sheet was printed in 1963 as a 15-minute USGS topographic map, and it is in excellent condition – lightly handled, never folded, smooth and flat on thick stock, with a flawless map area. Covering the Sulphur Springs Valley in Cochise County about 60 miles east of Tucson, the quad area takes in the town of Willcox and the community of Cochise, along with part of the Coronado National Forest and a stretch of the Willcox Dry Lake Bombing Range. The wide-open valley floor and the dry lakebed give the sheet its character, mapped from a 1940 and 1941 aerial and field survey; it comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.
