This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is a 1960 edition, printed in 1980, and is in excellent condition: never folded, smooth and flat, with a flawless map area and a clean collar free of wear or markings. The quad takes in a stretch of the Gila River valley in Graham County, Arizona, roughly 90 miles northeast of Tucson, and its boundaries include Safford, Thatcher, Solomon, Swift Trail Junction, and Cactus Flat. Drawn from a 1957 and 1960 aerial and field survey, it captures the farming country of the upper Gila valley at that time; printed on thick stock and never folded, it has been kept in the kind of shape that lends itself well to framing. It comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.

The Safford 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1957 and 1960. A reddish tint is used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings are depicted. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
