Printed in its year of first publication, 1982, this USGS 7.5-minute topographic sheet is in very good condition and was never folded, remaining smooth and flat with a flawless map area. The quad sits on the northwest coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, taking in Kawaihae and Kahua along with Kaunaoa Beach, one of the sandy stretches on this leeward shore. Anyone with a tie to South Kohala will recognize the dry, sunny coast the map records, where the land climbs from the shoreline toward the slopes of the Kohala district at a 40-foot contour interval.
