Vopoki Ridge Arizona Yuma Desert Yuma USGS Topo Map 1966

$42

This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is a 1965 edition printed in 1966, in excellent condition: never folded, smooth and flat, with a flawless map area and a clean collar free of wear or markings. Covering ground in the Yuma Desert of Yuma County, Arizona, the quad sits along the international border and takes in part of the Barry Goldwater Air Force Range, with the Mexico side of the line left unsurveyed on this sheet. Printed on thick stock and drawn from a 1940 through 1965 aerial and field survey, it comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona, and shows the arid low-desert country of Arizona’s southwestern corner.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Vopoki Ridge 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1940 through 1965. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
