Printed in its year of first publication, 1982, this USGS 7.5-minute topographic sheet is in excellent condition, having been lightly handled and never folded, and it remains smooth and flat. It maps roughly eight by nine miles of the northwestern coast of Hawaii Island, about 62 miles northwest of Hilo, with the quad area taking in Lapakahi Park and Malae Point. Built from aerial and field survey work spanning 1954 through 1982 and drawn at a 1:24,000 scale, it records the dry leeward Kohala shoreline where the land meets the sea along the Alenuihaha side of the island. Because the sheet was never folded, it lies flat and takes well to framing.
