A 1958 edition printed in 1961, this USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is in excellent condition, having been very lightly handled and never folded, so it lies smooth and flat on thick stock. Southeast of Tucson in Pima County, the quad takes in the Empire Mountains that give it its name, along with parts of the Coronado National Forest and the communities of Vail and Pantano. The rugged desert-mountain country here, mapped at a 40-foot contour interval, gives a detailed look at a stretch of southern Arizona that stays largely undeveloped away from the Tucson valley.
