Chediski Peak Arizona Cibecue USGS Topo Map 1963 Vintage
$44
This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1961 edition printed in 1963, an excellent sheet that was never folded and remains smooth and flat on thick stock, with hole punches in the left collar. Drawn from 1958 and 1961 aerial and field surveys, it takes in the country around Cibecue in Gila and Navajo counties, including part of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, with Chediski Peak giving the quad its name. This is the ground that later burned in the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski fire, one of the largest in Arizona history, mapped here as it stood four decades before.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Chediski Peak 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1958 and 1961. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
