Baton Rouge Louisiana Shenandoah Gardere USGS Topo Map 1967
$45
First published in 1963 and printed in 1967, this USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is in very good condition, moderately handled but never folded, on thick stock. It takes in the Baton Rouge area along the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana, with the quad boundaries covering parts of East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, and Ascension parishes and including places such as Baton Rouge, Brusly Landing, Merrydale, and Seymourville. Mapped from a 1963 aerial and field survey, it records the river bends and low ground around the state capital at five-foot contour intervals, a fine level of detail for such flat country. The collar shows light discoloration along the left edge and some handling dents at the bottom, while the map area itself is clean with no markings or blemishes.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Baton Rouge 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1963. A reddish tint is used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings are depicted. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
