1972 USGS Topo Map: Mount Harvard, Sawatch Range, Colorado

$40

This is a USGS topographic map of the Mount Harvard quad in central Colorado, a 1955 edition printed in 1972 at 1:62,500 scale, based on aerial and field survey work in 1953 and 1955. It covers a rugged stretch of the Sawatch Range about 25 miles south of Leadville, spanning parts of Chaffee and Gunnison counties and taking in portions of the San Isabel and Gunnison national forests and the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. Mount Harvard is one of Colorado’s fourteeners, rising above 14,400 feet among the Collegiate Peaks, and the 80-foot contours trace that high country in detail. The sheet was never folded and the map area is flawless, making it well suited to framing.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Mount Harvard 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1953 and 1955. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
