Highland Peak Colorado Snowmass Village USGS Topo Map 1988

$52

This USGS 7.5-minute topographic sheet is a 1960 edition with photorevisions through 1987, printed in 1988 and in excellent condition — very lightly handled, never folded, and on thick stock that has kept it smooth and flat. It covers a stretch of Pitkin County in the Colorado high country near Snowmass Village, taking in part of the White River National Forest and the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. As a record of Snowmass Village and its ski resort in the late 1980s, it captures a well-known corner of Colorado ski country, and the sheet carries a University of California inventory stamp in the bottom right collar from its earlier institutional life.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Highland Peak 7.5-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, paths, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1958 and 1960. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
This map is from the 7.5-minute series, the most detailed series that is widely available from the USGS. The 1960 Highland Peak map is a valuable historical record for the area. It contains some placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.

The map was photorevised in 1987. Any features that changed or were added between the original edition year of 1960 and the photorevision year of 1987 are overlayed in purple. The purple overlay provides an excellent view of the fast-growing and changing areas within the quad boundary.
