Buell Park Arizona Fort Defiance Navajo USGS Topo Map 1967
$46
This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is a 1955 edition printed in 1967, on thick stock and in excellent condition after being very lightly handled and never folded. Covering roughly 14 by 17 miles in the Fort Defiance vicinity about 30 miles northwest of Gallup, the quad crosses the Arizona-New Mexico line and takes in Navajo, Sawmill, and Crystal within the Navajo Indian Reservation, along with part of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Buell Park, the volcanic feature the quad is named for, sits in high country drawn at a 40-foot contour interval, and this sheet comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Buell Park 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1952 and 1955. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
