This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1950 edition printed in 1952, and the sheet is in excellent condition: very lightly handled, never folded, smooth and flat, on thick stock. Sitting about 30 miles west of Great Falls in Cascade and Teton counties, the quad takes in Fairfield along with the communities of Simms, Fort Shaw, and Sun River. Built from a 1942 through 1950 aerial and field survey, it records this stretch of the Sun River valley on Montana’s northern plains, with 20-foot contours tracing the low relief of the surrounding country. Being flat and never folded, it lies well under glass.
