Judith Peak Montana Black Butte USGS Topo Map 1978 Vintage

$44

This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1941 edition printed in 1978, in excellent condition on thick stock, very lightly handled and never folded so it lies smooth and flat. Set in Fergus County about 15 miles east of Lewistown, the quad takes in the Judith Mountains and Black Butte, with a 50-foot contour interval tracing the rise of this island mountain range out of central Montana’s plains. The Judith Mountains were the heart of a gold and silver mining district in the late 1800s, and the sheet maps the rugged high ground that drew prospectors into the region. The flawless map area and clean collar, together with the heavier paper, make this a strong candidate for framing.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
