Printed in its year of first publication, 1947, this USGS 7.5-minute topographic sheet is in good condition, with a midsheet horizontal foldline where it was folded in half and moderate handling. Based on a 1923 field survey with 1946 revisions, it takes in the Helm area of the San Joaquin Valley about 21 miles southwest of Fresno in Fresno County, with Fresno Slough and Fish Slough running through the quad. The sheet records the flat valley floor before the modern road system and much of the current agricultural footprint, showing historic levees, canals, place names, and the ranches, schools, and rail lines known at the time. The reverse carries printed reference material about the mapping program and how to read the map.
