This USGS 7.5-minute topographic map is a 1953 edition, printed in 1955, and the sheet is in very good condition: lightly handled, never folded, on thick stock, with a flawless map area and library stamps in the bottom right collar. Covering roughly 7 by 9 miles northeast of Knoxville in Knox County, Tennessee, the quad area takes in the community of Mascot and part of Knoxville itself. Compiled from a 1940 through 1953 aerial and field survey under the Tennessee Valley Authority, it captures the area before suburban expansion and the modern road and interstate system, showing the older travel routes, river crossings, rail lines, and placenames that once defined the landscape.

A reddish tint is used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings are depicted. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.
