Cimarron Peak Arizona Papago Hickiwan USGS Topo Map 1964
$46
This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1963 edition, printed in 1964, and the sheet is in flawless condition — never folded, smooth and flat, and on thick stock. Drawn from 1961 and 1963 aerial and field survey, it takes in country roughly 75 miles south of Phoenix in Pima County, with the quad area falling within the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation and including Papago and Hickiwan. The 40-foot contours across this stretch of southern Arizona desert record a remote, sparsely settled landscape, and this print comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Cimarron Peak 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1961 and 1963. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
