This joint USGS and Army Corps of Engineers topographic sheet is a first-year 1944 print, produced in the same year the edition was first published, and it survives in good condition on thick stock. Straddling the Massachusetts–Rhode Island line near Woonsocket, the quad area takes in Milford and Hopedale in Massachusetts along with portions of the Blackstone River valley that gives the sheet its name. Drawn from a 1942 and 1943 field survey with the map compiled by geographer LeG. J. Smith, it captures this stretch of the New England mill country as it stood during the Second World War. The reverse carries printed reference material explaining the mapping program and contour reading. The sheet has been moderately handled and has foldlines, while the map area itself shows no wear aside from a very minor marking near Swandale Cemetery.
