This 15-minute USGS topographic sheet is a 1892 edition, printed in 1899, and the antique cloth-backed sheet survives in good condition, lightly handled and attractively age-toned. Divided into nine folding panels, it takes in the Danbury area of western Connecticut, with the quad boundaries reaching from Brookfield south to Ridgefield and east toward Easton, and including Bethel, Newtown, Redding, and Branchville across Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven counties. Surveyed in 1889 under geographer Henry Gannett, it records the region before the modern highway system, showing the historic travel routes, river crossings, rail lines, and placenames of that era. There is a separation between the southeast and south-central panels, and neighboring sheet titles are pencilled unobtrusively along the edges.

Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
