This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1954 edition, printed in 1958, in good condition after moderate handling but never folded. It covers a stretch of Penobscot County in north-central Maine about 40 miles west of Houlton, taking in the lakes and ponds around Shin Pond itself, with a 20-foot contour interval detailing the surrounding terrain. This sheet came from a fisherman who neatly noted the fish species he found on several of the lakes, leaving a personal record of the waters across the map area and a small notation on the left collar.

A reddish tint may be used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings will be shown. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.
