Printed in its year of first publication, 1941, this USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is in excellent condition—very lightly handled, never folded, and smooth and flat on thick stock, with library stamps in the lower collar. Its 1:62,500 coverage takes in the arid country east of Yakima along the Columbia Basin, where Yakima Ridge and Umtanum Ridge run through the quad boundaries in Kittitas and Yakima counties. Drawn from a 1936 field survey with R.C. Seitz as geographer, it records the folded ridge-and-valley terrain of central Washington as it was mapped just before the wartime years, and the reverse carries printed reference material on reading the map. Because the sheet has never been folded and lies flat, it is a good candidate for framing.
