Printed in its year of first publication, 1911, this canvas-backed USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is in good condition, very lightly handled with publisher folds and minor foxing across a sheet that is now 115 years old. Surveyed in a 1909 field survey and engraved in 1910 under geographer R.B. Marshall, the map takes in a stretch of Grant County in central Washington, with the quad area including Royal City and Smyrna. A canvas-backed sheet from this early date is uncommon, and its 25-foot contours trace the dry, rolling country northeast of Yakima as it was mapped more than a century ago.

All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.

Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
