Corry Pennsylvania Spartansburg Elgin USGS Topo Map 1958

$44

This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1929 edition, printed in 1958, and the sheet is in very good condition, lightly handled and never folded, with edge protectors applied and a library stamp in the right collar. Covering ground about 30 miles southeast of Erie, the quad straddles the Pennsylvania–New York line and takes in the town of Corry along with the communities of Spartansburg, Elgin, Columbus, and Bear Lake across parts of Crawford, Erie, Warren, and Chautauqua counties. Drawn from a 1929 field survey credited to geographer J.I. Gayetty, it records the rolling farm and lake country of the two-state border in detail, and the heavy stock gives the sheet a solid, substantial feel.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Corry 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1929. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
