Franklin Pennsylvania Sugarcreek Polk USGS Topo Map 1962
$40
This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1909 edition printed in 1962, in good condition on thick stock with a clean map area free of markings or blemishes. Covering part of northwestern Pennsylvania about 65 miles north of Pittsburgh, the quad takes in Franklin, Sugarcreek, Polk, and Cooperstown across Venango, Mercer, and Crawford counties, with the communities of Utica and Rocky Grove within its boundaries. The base edition dates to the era when this stretch of the Allegheny and Oil Creek country was still tied to Pennsylvania’s early oil industry, and the sheet carries the field survey work credited to geographer R.B. Marshall. Never folded, it shows only a light crease in the lower left, and the collar bears a library stamp and edge protectors from prior institutional care.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Franklin 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1909. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
