This USGS 30-minute topographic sheet is a first-year 1939 print, in excellent condition, very lightly handled and never folded. Based on a 1934 and 1935 field survey, it takes in the Duchesne River country of northeastern Utah, with the quad area including Roosevelt, Duchesne, Neola, and Myton, along with smaller communities such as Altamont, Mountain Home, and Bridgeland, and part of the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. Printed on thick stock and now 87 years old, the sheet survives with a flawless map area and clean collar, marked only by an inventory stamp on the lower collar, and the reverse carries printed reference material on reading the map.

Maps from the USGS 30-minute series have been out of print for many years. They have never been common and original prints are increasingly difficult to find. For areas where the 30-minute map was produced, it is usually the first large-scale survey done by the USGS for that area. These are a valuable historical record, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent series’ and editions.
