This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1957 edition printed in 1960, and the sheet is in excellent condition: very lightly handled, never folded, and printed on thick stock that has kept it smooth and flat. Spanning the Utah-Arizona border about 55 miles east of Saint George, the quad area takes in Kanab and Orderville in Utah and Fredonia in Arizona, along with part of the Kaibab Indian Reservation and the Parunuweap and Moquith Mountain Wilderness Study Areas. Drawn from a 1953 through 1957 aerial and field survey, it records the canyon-and-plateau country of Utah’s southern edge, where Kanab sits at the gateway to the region’s redrock terrain. It comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.
