This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1957 edition printed in 1972, and the sheet is in flawless condition—very lightly handled, never folded, and printed on thick stock. The quad sits in the high desert of Coconino County about 25 miles east of Fredonia, taking in country that includes part of the Kaibab National Forest and the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. That combination of forest edge and canyon-and-cliff backcountry, drawn from a 1953 through 1957 aerial and field survey, is what someone with a tie to this remote stretch of northern Arizona would recognize.
