Printed in its year of first publication, 1918, this USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is in very good condition—lightly handled, never folded, and smooth and flat on thick stock, with attractive age-toning across the sheet. Covering a stretch of southern Ohio in Adams and Brown counties near West Union, the quad area takes in the towns of Winchester and Seaman along with smaller communities such as Cherry Fork, Macon, and Decatur. Engraved in 1917 under geographer R.B. Marshall from a 1915 field survey, this map records the hilly country of the Appalachian foothills as it stood a century ago, with terrain rendered at 20-foot contour intervals; the reverse carries printed reference material on the mapping program of the day. Having never been folded and remaining flat on heavy stock, it is a good candidate for framing.

They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
