Dayton Ohio Beavercreek Fairborn USGS Topographic Map 1956
$47
This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is a 1904 edition printed in 1956, in good condition on thick stock and never folded, with age-toning to the paper and minor edge tears and handling wear in the collars. Covering roughly 13 by 17 miles about 60 miles west of Columbus, the quad takes in Dayton along with surrounding parts of Montgomery, Greene, Clark, and Miami counties, including the area from Tippecanoe City to Dayton and communities such as Fairborn, Huber Heights, and Beavercreek. Drawn from a 1903 and 1904 field survey under geographer H.M. Wilson, it records the historic travel routes, rail lines, and placenames of the region as they stood before the interstate era, and comes from the vintage map collection of James Snively of Bellbrook, Ohio.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Dayton 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1903 and 1904. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
