Printed in its year of first publication, 1943, this Army Corps of Engineers topographic sheet is a first-year print in very good condition, produced on thick stock and never folded, though it shows moderate handling. Covering a stretch of Kern County southeast of Bodfish, the quad takes in portions of Sequoia National Forest and the Bright Star Wilderness across roughly fourteen by seventeen miles of the southern Sierra Nevada. Compiled from a 1943 aerial and field survey, it records this mountainous backcountry as it was mapped during the war years, with 100-foot contours tracing the rugged terrain around Emerald Mountain.
